This course is designed to give an overall view of the skills, and knowledge related to fire safety in a working environment

 

Successful candidates will achieve 3 credits at level 2  awarded by  the Open College Network

 

Course content

• Introduction and course aims.  An outline of the course which will give candidates an opportunity to meet each other and the trainer.  Candidates will be able to discuss their prior experience and discuss what they expect from the course

• Those with fire safety responsibilities have a duty of care to respond to emergency situations involving fire and candidates will learn the importance of maintaining their own personal safety and that of others. There are emergency procedures specific to each organisation and candidates will have an opportunity to look at these common and specific procedures and learn how to put into effect procedures to raise the alarm.

• Candidates will study the essential elements of the Fire Triangle, and their relevance to extinguishing a fire.

• Candidates will learn how to identify the different types classes of fire and discuss how they can be extinguished by relating to the fire triangle

• Candidates will be able to identify the appropriate fire extinguishers used on each type of fire and know how to operate each type of fire extinguisher.

• Candidates should have the ability to tackle a small fire with confidence.
